The King’s Head Inn is very excited to welcome 2 new Chefs to the team; BBC’s Masterchef and Welsh Chef of the year Quarter and Semi-finalist Christos Georgakis and superbly experienced Michelin-rated chef Anton Miguel. With Swansea being a small place, we weren’t too surprised when we discovered Christos and Anton had actually worked together in the same kitchen approximately 14 years ago at Anton’s restaurant Bella Napoli, Swansea.
Christos, born in Athens Greece brings to the table a slightly Greek infused influence. Brought up with his father owning a restaurant, Christos early on in his life developed a passion for food and cooking. With experience working in prestigious restaurants in Greece, France and the UK, he brings a wealth of experience with him. Before coming to us Christos worked for several years at the multi-award winning Gower wedding venue, The King Arthur Hotel and previous to that as Head chef again, in the multi award winning 5 star Maes Yr Haf restaurant in Parkmill, Gower. Christos also previously honed his skills at the award-winning Angel in Salem near Llandeilo, so you know you’re in for something of a treat!
Anton, Cardiff born to an Italian mother and Portuguese father brings to the table influences of both a traditionally Welsh and European nature. During his career, Anton has worked in a number of highly respected restaurants in France Italy, London and Wales not to mention working in the Michelin starred Walnut Tree in Abergavenny and previous to that in the 5* Principe Felipe Hotel in La Manga, Spain for several years. One of Anton’s most memorable experiences was catering for Princess Ann for a christening at St Paul’s Cathedral. Impressed? – We are.
Both chefs are extremely passionate about food and complement each other perfectly in the kitchen with their emphasis focused on only using the best-quality, fresh produce ranging from local meats, fish and vegetables. Customers of the King’s Head will already know, almost everything we serve is home- made in our kitchen and our dishes change seasonally with specials taking advantage of not-to-be-missed opportunities from our local suppliers of seafood, meats and game.
With our new chefs now on board, work on re-vamping our menu is already underway. We don’t want to give too much away so all we can say is; foodies watch this space!
In an effort to get to know our new chef’s better we decided to interview them and here’s what we found out…
Interview with Christos Georgakis
What inspired you to become a chef?- “I grew up surrounded with fresh food and from a young age I was cooking in my family’s restaurant. My mother gave me the cooking bug!”
What do you consider to be you’re most prestigious moment in your career? –“Being on Masterchef was great fun but winning your first chef rosette you will never forget.”
Who are your favourite celebrity chef’s? – ” Keith Floyd, because he is a legend! I would also have to say the Roux brothers and Marco Pierre White”.
What is your food heaven and incidentally food hell?- “My food heaven is a tricky one but I would have to go with Greek kebabs. And my food Hell is an easy one – Marmite, yuck!”
What’s your funniest kitchen incident?-“–“I had not long being working at a beach front hotel in France and the chef I was working under asked me to go on to the beach to collect seaweed from the rocks to use as a bedding, to dress the plate for the lobster we were serving. So, I went down to the beach and saw quite a lot of seaweed on top of some rocks a couple of metres high. I climbed onto the rocks and started collecting seaweed. When I finished and turned around to climb back down I realised the tide had come in around me! I quickly made my way back, wading through the water waist deep. I then had to walk up the beach and through the restaurant, downstairs to the kitchen absolutely soaking wet holding a big bunch of seaweed! “
Favourite food to cook with? –“Everything fresh. I love to cook with fish and seafood.”
What is your favourite type of wine?- “Red wine – Cabernet Sauvignon, White – Sancerre, a lovely crisp wine”
What’s the strangest food you have tasted?-“God where to start…Sweetbreads, lamb brains, snails, the list goes on!”
If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you like to have with you?- “Spices, a saucepan and matches. I was going to say a radio but when I thought about it I don’t think it would work on a dessert Island!”
One last question, what would your “last supper” meal be? – “a lovely fresh Greek salad followed by Greek Gyros kebabs and a large jug of G&T”

Is there a more romantic place than the beautiful, quaint village of Llangennith?!
The gorgeous landscape, a 4 mile stretch of golden sandy beach a short walk down the grass banked lane, wild ponies grazing on the hilltops, our pub; a 17th century Inn bursting with history and with open fires in both bars and rustic slate floors…can you picture a better setting to spend your Valentines weekend?
In his story Extraordinary Little Cough, Dylan Thomas described the beach at Rhossili Bay as “the wildest, bleakest and barrennest I know – four or five miles of yellow coldness going away into the distance of the sea”.
It is also one of the most beautiful places in all of the UK – and recently won the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice award for Britain’s Best Beach. It is not difficult to see why.
Dylan Thomas also wrote about our coast in his short story, ‘Who Do You Wish Was With Us?’ he wrote:
“… Laughing on the cliff above the very long golden beach, we pointed out to each other, as though the other were blind, the great rock of the Worm’s Head. The sea was out. We crossed over on slipping stones and stood, at last, triumphantly on the windy top. There was montrous, thick grass there that made us spring-heeled and we laughed and bounced on it, scaring the sheep who ran up and down the battered sides like goats. Even on this calmest day a wind blew on the Worm.” – Dylan Thomas
We can’t think of a better place to be on Valentines weekend with your loved one. So, with this in mind spoil your loved one to a romantic weekend in “sweet Llangenntih”…explore our coastline, coves and hilltops ; all packed with history and beauty. Then, in the evenings relax by our open log fire while sipping on a nice glass of wine, sampling some of our delicious homemade specialities talking about the day that has passed….What’s not to love!?

It’s that time of year. You have some annual leave to use up, but don’t want to spend the day barging through queues of Christmas shoppers. As an early festive treat throughout December, we’re offering a two night Sunday-Monday stay, with the second evening half price. Stay in our double deluxe room priced at £109 and pay just £54.50 for Monday night.
As you may know, we’re situated in the heart of the Gower, an area of outstanding natural beauty and a spot where Dylan Thomas spent time writing his famous literary stories.
Wrap up warm and take a stroll on Rhossili Bay, voted one of the best beaches in the world. Or cuddle up by the fire and tuck into a hearty traditional meal. Head Chef Liam Wilkes, prides himself on creating dishes made with local and seasonal produce all year round, including rich Welsh steak and Gower ale pie and cawl, a homemade Welsh broth of lamb and vegetables.
For the beer connoisseur in you, we serve a large selection of real ales all produced at our own brewery. The Gower Brewery opened in 2011 producing hand crafted ale using traditional methods and high quality ingredients.
For horse riders, there are stables at the inn for guests to keep their horses, and we also welcome a range of other pets from cats, dogs to iguanas!
The annual Endurancelife event in Gower will be starting from the National Trust Centre, Rhossili on the morning of 14th November. The coastal trails here are set against an awe-inspiring natural backdrop of cliff tops, downland, woodland, sand dunes and world famous beaches. This trail running paradise is very accessible from most parts of the UK.
Every year we host the official event after party here at The Kings Head Inn and this year is no different!
